The Sangre De Cristos Mountain Range

Wolf Springs Ranch is located in the Wet Mountain Valley between the Sangre De Cristo mountain range to the west and the Green Horn Mountains to the east in the great state of Colorado. We are 80 miles west of Pueblo, and 20 miles south of Westcliffe, a small town of 714 people. Our closest neighbor is 10 miles to the south. Westcliffe has one movie theater; no drugstore, a good hardware store and the newspaper is only printed once a week. If it weren't for satellites we would have no TV or cell phones. Yes, we are remote but we still have a modern 100-stall facility with one indoor and two outdoor arenas.

The Hayfields at Wolf Springs Ranch

Because we are so far away from quick service we have to function as a small city. We have eight families that live on the ranch and 16 people who work full time. Employed are a ranch manager, managing horse trainer, breeding manager, a reining trainer and a ranch veterinarian along with two more horse trainers and a full time office staff. Our program covers western, hunter, english and reining. We raise about 30 to 40 purebred and Half-Arabian foals each year as well as about 400 buffalo and our own hay.

The ranch sits at 8,500 feet above sea level and covers 75,000 acres (that's over 85 square miles), with mild winters and cool summers. This gives us lots of room for horses and buffalo and allows us to enjoy the outdoors without mosquitoes. Being from Minnesota that's very important! Our horses grow up crossing creeks and sharing their pastures with elk, deer, and a lot of smaller animals.

Now you know what we call home and it is here we raise good minded horses.
